Process for Creation:

I saw the rare opportunity to use a ternary chart--it's so, SO specific in its range of useful applications, but this happened to be an ideal example. To get rid of overplotting, I used hexbins rather than individual data points; I used Illustrator to create the background images (taking the color palette and definitions from the established DVS style), and created the final product in Tableau.
