Mentorship Program Manager

Part-time contract (10 hours per week): 4 months (through April 30, 2023
Remuneration: $1,250 US per month
Summary
The Data Visualization Society is where practitioners come together, through programs, events, publishing and partnerships with the aim to increase the visibility and value of the growing, dynamic field of data visualization to the wider public.
The organization started out just over three years ago, growing organically and growing to over 19,000 members across more than 100 countries around the world. To manage this growth and continue to build purpose and value, the Society is seeking dedicated support to better serve the needs of our members and community.
We are looking for
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organized manager for our data visualization Mentorship Program. This program had a successful cohort in summer 2022 and could use additional support to keep operations running smoothly.
Tasks & Duties
The Mentorship Program Manager will lead the overall logistics and organization of the Mentorship Program, reporting to the Programs Director. This role will be a critical component of the team, ensuring the program continues to be supported with the level of attention required for success.
Specific duties are expected to include:
Communication
Compile testimonials from the 2022 Midyear Cohort to use in messaging
Draft social media messaging and collaborate with Communications Manager to disseminate
Communicate with applicants via email
Communicate with mentors/mentees throughout the program via email
Communicate with non-selected individuals via email
Set up and moderate Slack channels
Support recruitment of mentors
Coordination
Use information from mentee and mentor applications to matching mentorship pairs or triads
Organize virtual kickoff events (minimum two to accommodate global community)
Organize virtual closing events (minimum two to accommodate global community)
Documentation
Update email templates
Revise Mentorship Program Standard Operating Procedure
Program Improvement
Work with the Programs Director to expand the Mentorship Activities list.
Recommend improvements to the Mentorship Program such as a revised communication strategy, better matching algorithm, additional resources to share with applicants and mentees/mentors, etc.
Review Mentorship Program Evaluation Survey responses from the 2022 Midyear Cohort.
Support collation of resources for non-selected individuals and mentees.
Additional Responsibilities
Ensuring the program represents DVS’ values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, including seeking speakers from underrepresented groups, ensuring opportunities are accessible (e.g., timing, language, captioning) and planning for accommodations throughout the program.
Identify and implement processes to improve efficiency in execution of the Mentorship Program.
Other duties as requested by the Programs Director or their designee for the purpose of planning and executing the 2023 Beginning of Year Mentorship Program Cohort.
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we’re looking for someone who is well organized, efficient and flexible. You should be comfortable communicating with passionate individuals of all experience levels (i.e., mentors and mentees) and understand and execute the vision while recommending process improvements. While most of this work will be independent, you will have the support of the DVS Programs Director and potentially a few additional committee members to discuss ideas. As a globally distributed organization, we expect that the person in this role can demonstrate cultural sensitivity and can ensure we design an accessible, inclusive program.
Required:
Experience managing programming with multiple moving parts in collaboration with a global team
Attentive to details, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams
Flexibility to join calls or meetings
Comfortable working with digital tools (e.g. productivity, time-management, scheduling)
Good communication skills
Our ideal candidate also has:
Passion and knowledge of the field of data visualization
Familiarity with the DVS Mentorship Program or other similar experiences
