The Information is Beautiful Awards program is more than handing out trophies: the Awards are a celebration of amazing work being created by data visualization designers, a showcase used for education and inspiration, and an opportunity to support learning and growth across our community.
With the return of the Awards, the Data Viz Society is hosting two days of Intersections Workshops are being hosted in advance of the 2022 IIB Awards Ceremony. The sessions are open to awards ceremony attendees and other data viz community members, with options to join sessions in-person or virtually (select sessions).
Throughout the two days, attendees can nurture their data visualization design skills, celebrate excellence in data visualization, and explore themes and challenges that we’ll need to understand as we advance the data viz industry.
Sessions will be a mix of hands on learning in select data visualization tech stacks and media that could be used to create award-winning data visualizations, short talks about themes in the industry, and lightning talks from 2022 IIB Awards shortlistees sharing a glimpse behind the scenes of their work.
TUESDAY // LEARN
Honeycomb and try a new tech stack, or take a refresher in a tool or approach you’ve used before! Tuesday is all about how award-winning visualization are built.
Featured sessions include:
D3+Svelte
R / ggplot
Low-code tools: Flourish, RAWgraphs, and Canva
Data physicalization
The day will wrap with a conversation about the differences across the different tech stacks, and an optional social hour at Courthouse Social for those joining in person to continue the conversation with other data visualization creators.
WEDNESDAY // INSPIRE
Stretch your thinking about data visualization design and leave inspired by joining Wednesday’s single-stream day of short talks and opportunities to connect with other data viz enthusiasts.

Select 2022 IIB Awards Shortlistees, sharing lightning talks on how they created their exemplary visualizations
Registration & Costs
Participants are welcome to register for the workshops of their choosing, selecting any of the half day or full day sessions.
Tickets for participating in-person, where you can meet some amazing other data viz enthusiasts, are limited. To join virtually, register on Eventbrite and you’ll receive additional details on joining your session.
With the goal of presenting an inclusive program, in-person workshops have an associated fee to attend, with the option to request a fee waiver if price is a barrier to participation. Virtual sessions are offered on a pay-what-you-choose scale, with recommended price points for the half-day and full-day sessions. If you’re able, please consider paying the recommended rate, which supports funding future workshops like these and the broader mission of the Data Viz Society.
