Building Your Career in Data Journalism
Stephanie Adeline, Data Journalist at The Straits Times
Stephanie is a data journalist based in Jakarta, Indonesia. She’s currently writing data stories, designing and sometimes developing interactives at The Straits Times, a Singapore newspaper. She graduated from UT Austin with a degree in journalism and only stumbled upon data journalism during her senior year. After graduation, she interned with the data visuals team at The Texas Tribune and then NPR, thanks to guidance from her data journalism professor.
Emma Kisa, Data Analyst at Code for Africa
Emma Kisa is a Data Analyst with Code for Africa, as part of their pan-African knowledge team. She has worked in the media and communication field for 13 years and is a Uganda National Journalism Awards (UNJA) 2017 nominee in the Data Journalism category. Emma has a strong interest in Early Childhood Development.
Taylor Johnston, Graphics Fellow at The New York Times
Taylor Johnston is a journalist from Cleveland, OH. A first-generation college student, she graduated from Ohio University in 2020 with bachelor’s degrees in journalism and interactive information design. Taylor is a graphics fellow at The New York Times and has worked for the Center for Public Integrity, The Dallas Morning News, Newsday and Ohio Magazine. When she is not creating a data visualization or sifting through a spreadsheet, she enjoys collecting stationery, practicing calligraphy and walking her dog, Burke.
