Connecting though local meetups and events enables more collaboration across the Data Viz Society. We're excited to provide an option for existing and new data viz groups to apply to be designated "Affiliates" of DVS - read to learn more about benefits of being an affiliated group, requirements, and the application.
Benefits of Group Affiliation
Amplification of events through DVS Slack and Social Media channels.
Group page listed on the Local Groups page, enabling discovery by new members.
Access to shared resources of what other affiliated groups are doing.
Support from the Society and other affiliated group organizers
Eligible to receive limited resources from DVS to support hosting and programming costs (not guaranteed).
Expectations for Affiliated Groups
Any meetup or other existing local data viz group OR a newly forming community group can apply to be an affiliate if they meet the requirements below:
All the organizers of the group must be members of DVS which will help us communicate and collaborate.
The organizers should be moderators for #location channel and members of #connect-meetup-leads Slack channels.
The organizers are engaged with the DVS including, sharing event information on the Slack #location channel
Organize the events (talks, workshops, etc.) at least one event every six months.
Events are typically free to participants, with possible exceptions of workshops or related activities with material costs that need to be covered. Events should not be profit-making ventures for the organizers.
Each group will create their own web page with all the details of past and upcoming events that can be linked to the DVS website. The affiliated group’s page must be hosted independently or organized through a service (like Meetup.com). If a service is used, the local organizers are responsible for all associated hosting fees.
Event details and invitations should be shared on the DVS Slack and added to the Events Spreadsheet.
Organizers are highly encouraged to document the event and include necessary details about the event on their website as well as for Nightingale.
Groups will track event attendance and success. An optional google form can be provided by DVS for consistent data capture, enabling analysis. The primary functions of monitoring should be

Abide by the DVS Code of Conduct, which lays out the expectations for the global DVS. Any confirmed violation of the code of conduct can result in the loss of affiliate status for the group.
